Doxies, often mistaken as fairies, are also known as Biting Fairies. They are covered in black fur, and can come across very sweet and docile when they are contained. Once free, though, their true nature as troublesome pests quickly comes to light.

As Laura discussed on Talks Machina, this was an encounter that could have been completely avoided by just not opening the cage. Once it was open, there was still the possibility of avoiding combat by attempting to trap them. But 5 out of the 7 doxies went for the attack right off the bat, and the students were already in a foul mood from having to serve Saturday detention, so a fight to the death ensued. The doxies had two attacks at their disposal, bite and dagger. They may have been small, but their attacks were surprisingly fearsome. Their bite also carried a required constitution save against poison damage.

This was the first time we really got to see what tricks the Club of Misfits had up their robe sleeves. Allison demonstrated her expertise with nature-based magic, casting Shillelagh on her wand and a Thunderwave at the doxies. Bryan was more skilled as a cleric, using Sacred Flame and, when frustrated, Inflict Wounds. Claire cast Magic Missiles and Acid Splash. Bunder mentioned that he was a sorcerer, and used Ray of Frost and Thunderclap. Andy showed off his superior athletic ability by smashing the doxies with his beater bat and then smashing them from afar with Catapult.

Through fighting the doxies, the misfits were forced to work together and help each other in order to survive. Half of the doxies were able to be one-shotted, but the other half were demolished through teamwork. Even Claire, determined to stay in the classroom the whole time, learned that working together produced better results than working alone. This newfound, tenuous camaraderie would serve them well when faced with what lay below the castle.
