Ettins are two-headed giants with orcish origins. With twice the heads, it’s able to deal two attacks at once with full concentration when in melee. They also have increased perception, and have advantage against being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, stunned, and being knocked unconscious. (This doesn’t really extend to having a boulder fall on top of them.)

Ettins are typically solitary creatures. It’s a DM decision that there were three traveling together, as the MM states that they are usually intolerant of other ettins. Having two heads results in frequent arguments with itself. Two ettins results in a four-head shouting match.

The Ettins served as a random encounter as the party made their way. Their distance from the party kept the encounter as an interesting diversion instead of a full combat situation. They also conveniently served as a means for the party to feel badass about themselves, thanks to a few smart plays by Tiberius and Percy and some lucky dice.
