This would be the third white dragon Vox Machina has faced, the second one we’ve seen them engaged with, and the first Ancient White Dragon they’ve faced.
Given everything we know about Vorugal, at this time, we can only assume he is more powerful than Rimefang, who had about 630 HP. *Our estimate comes from dividing Rimefang’s total HP from the suggested Adult average, then multiplying this result to the suggested average for an Ancient White Dragon. Even if our guess is way off, with the total damage dealt only about 44% of the younger creature’s total, it’s little wonder that Vorugal was more than willing to finish the fight had Thordak not intervened.
What we found most fascinating were the numbers Matt chose leave as is. In terms of armor class, Raishan the Ancient Green is slightly more protected than her textbook counter with 22. Meanwhile, Vorugal shares the AC of a Ancient White in the Monster Manual. His Constitution save of +14 is also standard (though that is strong enough without modification).
However, Matt did increase the strength of his Frightful Presence, requiring a DC 18 Wis Save in place of the suggested 16. Vorugal’s defense may not have been enhanced, but we think that his brutality are likely reflected in the strength of his attacks and his elevated health.
