What We Know About the Luxon and Xhorhas (Updated!)

Thanks to @my2k for this art piece!

We’ve heard from a number of you that you appreciate our posts breaking down what we know about the various lore drops on Critical Role, and boy howdy did we get one in the most recent episode! Ahead, we’ll detail the new information The Mighty Nein gained through their experiences in Rosohna.

Luxon

We learned a lot about the Dynasty’s favorite deity from Empress Leylas Kryn, Skysybil Abrianna Mirimm, and Shadowhand Essek Thelyss in episode 2-57. (Yes, we’ve confirmed all those spellings with Matt.)

The Luxon is responsible for creating the elements that became life on Exandria, scattering itself to bring fire and life to a cold and lonely rock of a planet.

  • The Luxon’s body is held within the Beacons, of which the Dynasty has discovered four.

  • Selected followers of the Luxon go through cycles of rebirth so they can live enough lives to learn the true meaning of why they are on Exandria and to bring the fragments of the Luxon’s puzzle to it when it is reborn, to give it purpose.

  • The Luxon is also the source of a very potent magical force and the beacon is one of many funnels of dunamis power.

  • The followers of the Luxon have periods of worship where they “give [them]selves to the sunlight as part of [their] means of showing [their] faith.”

Monster Analysis: Kryn Mage and Warrior

Thanks to @nikkidawesdraws for this art piece!

While we got our first taste of the Kryn’s special tools of war back in episode 13 following the collapse of the Zauber Spire in Zadash in addition to the often-used Motes of Possibility from the stolen Beacon, the Nein’s first direct encounter with the Kryn Empire on the front lines of the war provided a much stronger preview for dunamancy, Matt’s new branch of magic, and the individuals capable of wielding it. Despite the disadvantage in numbers, the Kryn soldiers’ use of dunamis to manipulate the battlefield provided a remarkably strong advantage, potentially honed over generations of Beacon use. While full details will almost certainly be unveiled at a much later, unspecified time, we’ve taken the liberty to catalog what we have learned about these new dunamancy-based classes.

What We Know About the Felderwin Situation

What We Know About the Felderwin Situation

Thanks to @Nerdsketchbook for this art piece!

After avoiding it for as long as they could, The Mighty Nein has made their way back into the Dwendalian Empire. Never ones to do things part way, the party set their destination for Felderwin, the site of the most recent (and furthest west) Xhorhasian attack. Felderwin is also the nearest town to where Nott grew up as a member of a roving goblin clan. Upon arriving, the Nein realized that their visit would be much more complicated than checking up on Nott’s old friend, Yeza.

There is a lot of information that we just don’t know yet about the entire situation, and probably won’t until at least episode 49. Speculation, naturally, has been rife this week. We’re going to lay out everything that we do know related to Nott’s history, the Cerberus Assembly, Xhorhas, and dunamis, and how it all factors into where we left our band of adventurers.
