Villains Gallery: Underdark and Trial of the Take

Villains Gallery: Underdark and Trial of the Take

Thanks to @brinmataujall for this art piece!

We had an anonymous critter request a while back for us to create a list of villains and information about their intentions and deeds. There have been a lot of big bads over the course of 99 episodes, so many that we can't do them justice in one post. We're breaking them up by story arc, starting with the Underdark and Trial of the Take villains.

Birds of a Feather

Qui11iam asked: How many birds has the cast flipped over the course of the show?

While the rogue has definitely been responsible for the most “daggers” thrown, the rest of the cast has shown that they can throw their own fair share.

Elder Brain HP

anonymous asks: Has anyone estimated how many hit points the elder brain had?

From our monster analysis, we figured out that Vox Machina dealt 320 damage to the Elder Brain before deciding on self-preservation. Matt’s exact words was that it “was not on death’s doorstep.” This is not all the surprising, considering the sheer power generations of illithid minds would generate.

We were informed that it was looking “pretty rough” (code for “over halfway there”), but we can’t image they were particularly far past the halfway point. The value that we think it actually had was “more than you were able to deal with the entirety of an illithid colony bearing down.” However, if we had to estimate a specific value, we’d say that it had a bare minimum of 575 HP.

Critmas Episodes

anonymous asks: Hi, quick question, what episodes are critmas episodes and at what time do they start?

According to our Running Times table, Critmases occurred on:

On a related note, we’re quickly approaching the one-year anniversary of Critical Role, as well as the nearest Critmas to it. We’re attempting to catalogue as many gifts as we can before that happens, but, it’s a sizable project in so short a time. If you’d like to volunteer to log through an episode of Critmas (or more!), shoot us an ask or an email, and we’ll set you up. Thanks!

anonymous asks: This blog is really entertaining, keep up the good work! As you were mentioning #LeaveTrinketBehind: How about the number of turns/spells/items that were used (wasted) on saving Trinket?

In an attempt to follow CritRoleStats Rule #6, the objective criteria we used to measure this one were:

  • Would this spell/turn/item have been used without Trinket’s presence?
    • The uses of Seeming in Whitestone aren’t on this list because Vox Machina needed Scanlan to cast it on them to walk around the city, with or without Trinket.
  • Likewise, could this spell/turn/item have been used on a member of Vox Machina, or to do something else, had it not needed to be used on Trinket?
    • Had Trinket not been there in Episode 13, Tiberius could have used one of his Fly castings on a member of VM, which is why it’s included on this list.

Vox Machina: Turnt Up

Drinks all around!

Well, except maybe during these times. I hear good things about Wah-Turr… Updated as of episode 38.*

  1. Party (ep13, 2:19:07) Pub crawl to celebrate escape from the Underdark.
  2. Vax’ildan (ep14, 2:48:20) After a pleasant afternoon out with Gilmore.
  3. Grog (ep17, 1:24:05) A disappointing evening after a disappointing defeat.
  4. Vex’ahlia (ep22, 1:14:12) A day of material loss drives the treasurer to drink.
  5. Party (ep23, 1:45:05) After Grog’s victory in the Crucible, they commence celebration, continuing throughout the afternoon (1:58:27).
  6. Tiberius (ep26, 2:15:43) A frustrating turn of events turns the dragonborn to fire water.
  7. Keyleth (ep38, 0:40:02) Vox Machina’s second pub crawl results in a very drunk druid. Keyleth doesn’t want to go home, so Grog suggests four shots of Firewater (0:52:18). After a bit of “druidcrafting” (0:57:28), Pike casts Lesser Restoration to remove the hangover, but keep the buzz going (1:02:45).

*Note that we’re still waiting on drunk showcases from Pike, Scanlan, and Percy!
