Villains Gallery: Underdark and Trial of the Take

Thanks to @brinmataujall for this art piece!

We had an anonymous critter request a while back for us to create a list of villains and information about their intentions and deeds. There have been a lot of big bads over the course of 99 episodes, so many that we can't do them justice in one post. We're breaking them up by story arc, starting with the Underdark and Trial of the Take villains.

  • Led troops at the duergar warcamp

  • Banished by Scanlan before returning to be interrogated, killed by K’varn the Mad in the course of this interrogation

Don’t Cry For Me, Vox Machina

@BananaMcGee1 Here’s a stat for you to find: How many times have any of the players cried on the show?

We’re always looking for volunteers to rewatch episodes to help us finish our Works in Progress! If you’re interested, message us here or email us at critrolestats@gmail.com.

Onto the questions!

During Liam’s one shot, was Taliesin’s rod just a catalyst for warlock spells (and if so was he just slinging out eldritch blasts) or the actual tentacle rod item?

From what we can tell, it was just a catalyst for warlock spells.  When he used it, none of the attacks for the tentacle rod were implemented.

Do you have a list of Liam’s bootleg versions of Mercer’s catch-phrases from his one-shot campaign?

  • “You may indubitably give it your best effort.”
  • “You can certainly have at it.”
  • “Do something or Imma pass you by.”
  • “In what manner would you like to kill this?”
  • “Is it the day before Friday yet?”

How many times (and when) did Tiberius introduce himself?

29: We’ve got all of those times detailed here.

What is the male sphinx named?

A name is earned (by watching Episode 49). We’ve got a document with all the riddles that’s spoiler-free as long, as you don’t scroll too far, if you want to figure it out alongside the party.  If you are really intent on spoiling yourself, you can find it on our NPC list.

When did Grog say, “Have you heard the good news of our Lord and Savior MY AXE IN YOUR FACE?!”

I’ve heard Pike’s infamous mic bump during the episode “Denouement” mentioned multiple times. When exactly did this happen?

Ep35, p2. 0:36:10

Wondering how stats were generated for the party? Was it “roll 4d6 drop 1, assign numbers” or something? I’m getting a 5e group together and am curious; it’s sometimes hard to get decent stats out of some of the roll methods. Thanks!

Matt confirmed on Reddit that they roll 4d6, drop 1, arrange, and reroll them all if they don’t add up to at least 70.

Death Saves

luminarycas asked: Do you have stats on how often VM saves and fails on death saving throws? For some reason, it feels as if they fail much more often than that they save.

Here are the Death Saving Throws that Vox Machina has made, discounting auto-failures due to taking damage while unconscious:

Do we know where the party got the immovable rod?

We do! They received it in Whitestone from Jordana (ep30, 2:09:55), who was tending the magic shop in her father’s “absence.” There was a second immovable rod used earlier in the stream (Ep11, 2:42:44), which was last seen in Tiberius’ possession.

Vex said this week she has two dragon slaying arrows, I remember that one came from Zahra, but do we know where she got the other one?

The first Arrow of Dragon Slaying was looted from the quiver of one of Rimefang’s earlier victims (ep19, 3:40:58). Vex specifically set this one aside to be used on the dragon that killed her mother. (Zahra gifted the second arrow at Ep44, 4:43:45.)

Percy's Initiative Bonus

Anonymous Asked: Do you know if Percy has anything that gives him a bonus on initiative? I saw that he got an initiative of 28 in the ToT episodes (when nat 20ing on initiative), even though his dex modifier should only have been +6.

Updated! The Manual of Quickness in Action bumped him up to his +6 modifier. At the time of the Trial of the Take, Revision 1.1 granted the Gunslinger an extra +2 to initiative at level 7, putting Percy at +8.

However, with the latest revision (1.2), Percy can now add his full proficiency bonus to initiative roll, granting him +11 at level 13!

Special thanks to @FrankIncer for sorting us out!

Critmas Episodes

anonymous asks: Hi, quick question, what episodes are critmas episodes and at what time do they start?

According to our Running Times table, Critmases occurred on:

On a related note, we’re quickly approaching the one-year anniversary of Critical Role, as well as the nearest Critmas to it. We’re attempting to catalogue as many gifts as we can before that happens, but, it’s a sizable project in so short a time. If you’d like to volunteer to log through an episode of Critmas (or more!), shoot us an ask or an email, and we’ll set you up. Thanks!

anonymous asks: This blog is really entertaining, keep up the good work! As you were mentioning #LeaveTrinketBehind: How about the number of turns/spells/items that were used (wasted) on saving Trinket?

In an attempt to follow CritRoleStats Rule #6, the objective criteria we used to measure this one were:

  • Would this spell/turn/item have been used without Trinket’s presence?
    • The uses of Seeming in Whitestone aren’t on this list because Vox Machina needed Scanlan to cast it on them to walk around the city, with or without Trinket.
  • Likewise, could this spell/turn/item have been used on a member of Vox Machina, or to do something else, had it not needed to be used on Trinket?
    • Had Trinket not been there in Episode 13, Tiberius could have used one of his Fly castings on a member of VM, which is why it’s included on this list.

01 Arrival at Kraghammer

  • Keyleth (1:27:58) Polymorph (Kitten)

Bustin' Out Bad News

anonymous asks: Have you compiled a list of times Percy has busted out Bad News (similar to Grog's "rage" track?)

Bad News: Nothing Travels Faster.

Here are all the times Percy initially busted out Bad News in battle. Updated to Episode 42.
