The Sparkstone

biggggg5 asked: Hi, sorry to bug you but i am new to watching Critical Role and I just watched Keyleth do her trial of fire and recieve that sparkstone thing. I was wondering if you knew if she ever uses it? I dont want to know who she would use it on but if you could let me know what episode she uses it in that would be great. I figure if anyone would know you would. Thank you very much!

Someone DOES end up using it in in the middle of battle in Episode 28 (29 minutes in)!

Another set of Quick Answers!  Lots of reminiscing this time around.

Do you guys happen to remember when Percy said he wanted to visit the temple of the Raven Queen?

Episode 42 (3:36:43). He never made the trip, but we imagine Taliesin would have been very interested to see traces of her influences again, especially since he saw her influence in a different campaign.

In what episode did Grog trip Vax, and what were their rolls for it?

Episode 5 (1:43:50). Grog: 24. Vax: 22.

Experience Points

Anonymous asked: Hey! I know it's not necessarily Crit Role related, but in one of the episodes Matt was so impressed with Scanlan that he gave him extra XP for it. In one of the DM Tips and Tricks videos, or maybe one of the periscope videos, he mentioned that he has a specific equation for calculating RP experience points for his characters and that he would put it on twitter. Do you guys know if he ever did? Or what that equation might be?

He did tweet it! For each time a character has a moment that either drives the story forward or beats a skill challenge, Matt records a mark for that character. At the end of the session, their RP experience is calculated this way

Experience = PC’s Level * 15 * Number of marks

Update: Although Matt did state in Ep12 that he used 25 as the constant, he confirmed that he changed the formula to use 15 when he realized that dealt out more than he felt was necessary. Thanks, Matt!

Dominant Hands

Considering Tyriok’s sudden reliance on his ambidexterity, we found it fitting to examine just what each player’s dominant hand is. While we can’t say for sure that each PC shares the same dominant hand as their player (e.g., Liam appears to be right handed but Vax is ambidextrous thanks to Dual Wielding), thanks to some observation, we can at least be confident which hand each cast member favors. Thanks to MomStats for her support, curiosity, and findings!

Gun Attack Rolls

Anonymous Asked: When using the pepperbox or Bad News, what dice + modifier combo does Taliesin use to determine damage? And the base attack roll is d20+Dex, with the additional modifiers that Sharpshooter etc has, correct? Thanks for any info you can give :) You do a great job keeping up with all the info <3

Correct, gun-based attacks use Percy’s Dex mod. @acommonrose points out that Percy gets an extra +2 to his ranged attack rolls thanks to the fighter’s Fighting Style specialty. With a +6 Dex mod, +2 range modifier, and a +5 proficiency, that puts Percy at +13 to hit with guns!

As far as damage, Percy has a +6 damage modifier. If he successfully uses the Sharpshooter feat, he gains an additional 10 points of damage. Add the Violent Shot on top of that, and assuming the weapon doesn’t misfire, the damage will be ridiculous.

From the (older) Dropbox document, here are the properties of each firearm:

Hag Deals

alaskathenerdfightingwholockian asked: Regarding your earlier post about the hag deals, wasn't "a bit of Tiberius's luck" a part of the deal for the mending wheel or am I just delusional?

You’re not delusional! Before the stream, Tiberius made a deal with the hag Trysta for the Wheel of Mending in exchange for “a piece of his luck.” (Matt explained that while it went unimplemented, this lack of luck has, in previous campaigns, taken the shape as a one-time-only forced Natural 1!)

Taliesin Can't Stop Critting

placeofold asks: do you remember which episode Taliesin put the golden dice down after rolling too many 20s? Thanks!

Episode 33, in which Taliesin rolled a record-breaking seven Natural 20sAfter his fifth Nat20 for initiative, Taliesin agreed to change dies. (Marisha immediately demonstrated that it was capable of rollings 1s.)
