Thanks to @Takayuuki_art for this art piece!

With Vox Machina’s final battles of the campaign fast approaching, we decided it was time update our compendiums for the big bads of this arc: Vecna and Delilah Briarwood. You can follow these links to check out the full compendiums for ALL the information, but below the break, we have a quick summary of what we’ve added since our last update following episode 106. First up: Vecna. Warning: spoilers abound! If you haven’t watched through episode 112, you have been warned.

Lots of questions this time around! (All asked around the same time.)

What’s the fastest Vax can possibly get?

When hasted and flying, Vax gets 3 Dash actions (action, hasted action, bonus action because rogue) on top of his normal movement at 120 ft/round, so a total of 480 ft/round. That’s about 55 mph (88 km/hr).

What’s the most damaging attack Vox Machina’s dealt/taken?

Taking multiple targets into account:

  • Keyleth dealt 660 damage to the skeleton army marching on Whitestone with Ice Storm. (Ep 32)

  • Raishan dealt 788 damage to Vox Machina, Kerrek, Allura, and Kima with Meteor Storm (minus Vax’ildan, who evaded). (Ep 83)

    • Dealt 552 damage to Vox Machina alone.

For a single target:

  • Vax dealt 109 damage to the mummy king with Whisper, Divine Smite, and Assassinate. (Ep 110)

  • Raishan dealt 118 damage each to Scanlan and Kerrek with Meteor Swarm. (Ep 83, part of the above 788 damage).

    • Note that this ignores Keyleth’s cliff-diving incident, since that wasn’t technically an attack. It also ignores any insta-death effects, since no damage was rolled.

What We Know About: Vecna and the Shadowfell

What We Know About: Vecna and the Shadowfell

Thanks to @kupieckorzenny for this art piece!

As Vex’s inspired Oracle Arrow revealed in Episode 97, Delilah Briarwood’s handiwork opened a window into the Shadowfell, also known as the Plane of Shadow. Delilah’s ritual was to advance the goals of the god wannabe, Vecna (who has not yet ascended to godhood in this world). Delilah’s return in Episode 100 has prompted Vox Machina to give chase into the Shadowfell, so let’s take a look about what all we know about the Shadowfell and The Whispered One. Before we begin, please remember that the Shadowfell and Vecna from any published material—5e DMG, previous lore, etc., may have similarities and differences from those in Critical Role. This summary is a combination of what we know from previous episodes, Matt’s descriptions in Episode 101, the DMG, and the MM.

Want to see the quotes from Critical Role about Vecna, the spinning orb of death, and the Shadowfell? Have we got a compendium for you!

What We Know About: Lady Delilah Briarwood

What We Know About: Lady Delilah Briarwood

Thanks to @rlinarts for this art piece!

With all that’s gone on in the last two episodes, we knew we needed to compile everything we know so far about Delilah Briarwood. Much like our previous efforts, we’ve made a compendium (linked below) of all relevant quotes about her. The following is a summary of that information: all facts, no speculation, and spoilers through episode 100. Proceed with caution. We’d like to thank @curriebelle for providing her insight into Delilah, as well as Critical Role Transcript for their truly invaluable service!

Monster Analysis: Delilah Briarwood and the Remnants

Monster Analysis: Delilah Briarwood and the Remnants

Thanks to @AgentPluto for this art piece!

  • First Appearance: 24 The Feast
  • Encounter Appearance: 100 Unfinished Business
  • Armor Class: Unknown
  • Speed: 30 ft
  • Unknown HP and Resistances
  • No Damage Taken

The Delilah Vox Machina encountered by surprise had significantly more preparation than the last time they saw her. In the 383 days since her demise, she had time to rebuild her cult, start the ritual over again (without interruption) on the next Winter’s Crest, and practice her magic enough to learn 9th levels spells on top of her already deadly repertoire.

Villains Gallery: Whitestone

Villains Gallery: Whitestone

Thanks to @sootttea for the art piece!

We had an anonymous critter request a while back for us to create a list of villains and information about their intentions and deeds. There have been a lot of big bads over the course of 99 episodes, so many that we can't do them justice in one post. We're breaking them up by story arc, continuing with the Whitestone arc villains.

Whitestone

Lord Riskel Daxio

  • Elven fighter
  • Member of the Cult of Vecna
  • Acted as a spy for the Briarwoods within the Council of Emon.
  • Attempted to flee Emon after VM’s return from Whitestone with the Clasp’s help.
  • Executed by Grog after capture by VM and sentencing by Sovereign Uriel Tal’Dorei II.

Countess Jazna Graben

  • Half-orc ranger
  • One of the “new lords” brought to the city by the Briarwoods.
  • Seen patrolling the woods near Whitestone as Vox Machina approached the city.
  • Executed by Grog after capture during the rebellion and refusal to help rebuild the city of Whitestone.

What We Know About Ripley: A Summary

What We Know About Ripley: A Summary

Thanks to @swiper-no-artswiping for the art!

In the last two episodes, Dr. Anna Ripley has re-emerged and refused to be ignored any longer. Since she’s become extraordinarily important once again, we decided to hunt down everything we know about her. Much like the Thordak compendium, we’ve compiled all the times Ripley has been mentioned here. The following is a summary of that information; again, all facts, no speculation, and spoilers up through Episode 67. Proceed with caution.

Did Pike ever actually order stealthy armor from Gilmore?

Yes…ish. Pike asked Gilmore in Episode 14 (2:59:24), if she could commission him to make her armor that would be very heavy and very quiet. He said it could be done in about a month, and for a cost of 8000 gp (not including the price of the armor itself). Vax commented that it was, ‘worth it,’ and after a brief discussion on how Vax wasn’t trying to use Gilmore to get a better deal, Pike commented ‘ok,’ and the conversation moved on. No money was paid as a down payment, and it wasn’t brought up again.

How close did the group come to defeating the Briarwoods in Emon?

Very close to killing Sylas, less than halfway to killing Delilah. They were so close to turning Sylas to mist the first time, we’re surprised he didn’t-he took 203 damage in both battles. Delilah, on the other hand, only took 93 damage in the first battle, and somewhere around 200 damage in the second round.

Speculation

Anonymous asked: Story threads that have been dropped/not hit on yet? For example: Kainan, Vax’s protégé?

Check out this post here for a number of the major ones.  Here are some others:

  • Did the entryway to the (possibly) Far Realm that Vox Machina caved in ever reopen?
  • Was Captain Damon single?
  • Why did it take Kima so long to go back to Vasselheim?
  • Why do Osysa and her mate have to stay apart? How did they meet?
  • How did Lyra’s parents die?
  • How did Zahra come to make her pact with The Great Old One?
  • Where is Keyleth’s mother?
  • Percy and Lillith didn’t come down to breakfast…
  • Where is Vouk (a.ka. the tongueless wonder) now?
  • How did Riskel, Sylas, Delilah, and Anders get involved with Vecna?
  • Where is Ripley and what is she up to?
  • What is the spinning orb of death?
  • What happened to Goran Vedmeyer?
  • Was the blue shard that VM traded to the Clasp to get to Daxio a piece of a threshold crest?
  • Who was the new owner of Krieg’s house?
  • There was an engraving on the bottom of the tea set that Vex took of L.M.-who is it?
  • How did the Chroma Conclave come to be and why?
  • What did Allura do with the skull?
  • Where is Kamaljiori now?
  • Is Craven Edge enjoying his vacation on another plane of existence?
  • Tales of Allura, Drake, and Kima’s days as adventurers.
  • Who is living in Greyskull Keep?
  • Who was Kerrek really?
  • Is Nala enjoying her book?
  • Did Garmelie really just want Tirelda’s hat for fun?
  • How are threshold crests made?
  • Who worshipped Orlan the ghost bear?
  • Where did the trees go that Vex saw drop out of the canopy? And how did they come back?
  • Why did Gilmore leave Marquet?
  • What is going on with the drug trade in Ank’Harel (and is fusaka part of it)?
  • The ruler of Ank’Harel, J’mon Sa Ord, has been there for way longer than should theoretically be possible- who or what are they?

Will there be a new Critical Role episode on August 4th (today)?

No; the new episode this week will be live at GenCon on August 6th, at 8 PM EST (5 PM PST, two hours earlier than usual).

I recall that one time Percy crit on his Dead Shot ability and it turned out to be a very cool and badass moment. Do you happen to recall the episode and have a timestamp for when that happened and what was the total damage for that shot?

If you’re interested in crits, you can find all of them at links on our Running Stats page.  We’re pretty sure you’re referring to Percy’s Violent Shot against Lady Delilah Briarwood in Episode 34 (3:39:40). He dealt 50 damage (42 piercing + 8 ice), but because she was wearing the Cloak of Displacement that Vax now wears, she only took 29 damage (21 piercing + 8 ice). If you’re interested in rolls and their resulting damages, check out our All Rolls chart.  Or, if you’re interested in spells and their results, check out our Spells Cast chart.
