The people are asking to hear our voice/over Pike’s mysterious romantic choice/if you were to ask us who we would promote….

(We will stop using Hamilpuns eventually….BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY!)

What episode and time did Percy utter the immortal line “Your secret is safe with my indifference”?

Episode 45 (2:18:07)

Do you guys have any idea what spell Gilmore used on his assassin?

Matt answered that one on Twitter: a spell of the DM’s (and Gilmore’s) creation. It’s not the first time we’ve seen a special spell in use, either (Drake’s lightning travel spell).

Grog's Hit Points

Anonymous asked: Is it just me, or does Grog have somewhat low max HP given the fact that he a) rolls really well when leveling up (according to Matt), and b) took the Tough feat?

Well, let’s take a look at the potential range. First, let’s establish the baseline, before we roll any hit dice.

  • Level 1: 16 = 12 + 4 (Con 18)
  • Levels 2-9: 32 = 4 (Con 18) * 8
  • Levels 10-14: 25 = 5 (Con 20) * 5 (Grog obtained the Belt of Dwarvenkind while he was level 9)
  • Additional Con for levels 1-9 from Belt: 9
  • Tough at L14: 28 = 14 * 2

So, 110, plus the results of 13d12.

  • Grog with the maximum: 266 = 156 + 110
  • Grog with the minimum: 123 = 13 + 110
  • Grog with the average: 194 = 84 + 110
  • Grog’s actual: 192 = 82 + 101

So, Grog is 2 points below average. We can also take into account his rolls since the character cards have been made available:

  • L10: 2 = 134 - 116 - 2 Tough - 5 Con - 9 Con from previous levels
  • L11: 4 = 145 - 134 - 2 Tough - 5 Con
  • L12: 11 = 163 - 145 - 2 Tough - 5 Con
  • L13: 10 = 180 - 163 - 2 Tough - 5 Con
  • L14: 5 = 192 - 180 - 2 Tough - 5 Con

With 32 HP gained just by dice for levels 10-14, we can surmise that he gained 50 HP by dice for levels 2-9. This works out to an average of 6.25 HP per roll.

@noahtopper points out that Con score increases should retroactively increase HP from the levels that hadn’t benefitted from them before. The above calculations have been modified to indicate this. However, should Travis not have added this 9-point bonus from the belt between levels 9 and 10, his 10th level die roll would have been an 11 instead of 2. If this is the case, then he has rolled 91 HP with 101 consisting of modifiers, putting his rolls 7 points above average. He should add an additional 9 points to his HP, if this were true.

Do we know who has the Earrings of Whisper?

In recent episodes (since Episode 37), all members of Vox Machina behave like they have an earring.

Did Matt ever explain how he would handle Reincarnate?

We’ve been told how Pike’s death was handled pre-stream, which was to bring her body to a temple of Sarenrae, enlist the help of a cleric, and go through the revival process he’s previously detailed. As for Reincarnate (PHB 271) specifically, that gets messy enough that we’re doubtful the players would implement it, even to save one of their own. (But imagine the possibilities! The hilarity! The angst! -L)

How much damage could Keyleth have done if her Earth Elemental form teleported inside the dragon?

The earth elemental’s slam attack deals 2d8+7 damage to its target, and it can slam attack twice on a turn.  So, the maximum damage Keyleth could have dealt inside Umbrasyl as an elemental would be 46 damage per round.

Given the difference between Umbrasyl’s HP and the maximum for an ancient black dragon, would it be reasonable to assume that Vorugal’s HP is somewhere around the 750 mark?

Yep, it’s about that! The “standard” average for an ancient black dragon is 367 (ratio of about 2.3 with Umbrasyl’s HP), so if you use that, the ancient white should scale to 773 from an average of 333. Using the “standard” maximum of 567 (ratio of about 1.5 with Umbrasyl’s HP) gets you 757 if you use the ancient white’s maximum of 504.

Monks and Vox Machina

Anonymous asked: Have the party ever encountered a monk, NPC, PC, Hostile, Neutral or Ally.

Vox Machina met Earthbreaker Groon, monk and head of the temple of Kord in Vasselheim, in episodes 23 and 43.  Kern, who sparred with Grog in episode 23, trained with Groon, which allowed Kern to take two levels of monk (Kern utilized Dodge, which isn’t available to Level 1 monks). They also defeated a monk in episode 26, along with the old lady mage and The Broker.

Update: Several critters have been kind of enough to point out that, before the stream, Yuri Lowenthal guested in a game as Ghostfist, a dwarven monk. If D&Diesel can be considered canon, Vex and Grog have also met The Headmistress, a human monk played by Jessica Chobot.
