Taryon's List of Adventures

At the beginning of his journey with Vox Machina, Taryon Darrington read off a list of adventures that he hoped to accomplish during his travels. Those were:

  • Rescue a maiden
  • Transport a treasure
  • Escort a muckety-muck
  • A revenge plot
  • A classic dungeon crawl
  • Solving a mysterious riddle
  • The old fashioned double-cross
  • Teleport
  • Shopping mission
  • Slay a dragon

He’ll be pleased to note that he can cross almost everything off of that list!

All Rolls Statistics, Episode 100 Update

All Rolls Statistics, Episode 100 Update

Episode 100 makes a fine checkpoint to see how many total d20 rolls and crits we’re at in the series. Let’s start with what each member contributes to the d20 total, individually:

All Rolls

There have been 8987 player d20 rolls, including guest players, since the start of the stream. Of these, the current members of Vox Machina have contributed 8477 rolls. Vax leads the way here, with 1711 total d20 rolls over 100 episodes (20.2%), likely because he is constantly stealthing and checking for traps, not to mention his signature “dagger dagger dagger.” Grog’s Reckless Attacks have pushed him into second at 1587 (18.7%), and Vex is third at 1504 (17.7%). Pike and Tary trail largely because of a much lower number of episode appearances, and Keyleth and Scanlan tend to roll fewer d20s simply because most of their attacks tend to be spells that rely on saving throws rather than an attack roll. In addition, none of these characters are typically taking point on any dungeon-crawling.

Note: There is a very oblique reference to something in Episode 99 in the last answer. We don't think it spoils much, but if you're spoiler-averse, you'll want to stop after you read the answer about Pike and Grog's parents.

How did Vax’s 2 for stealth turn into a 37?!

Reliable Talent allows Vax to treat any rolls lower than 10 for skills that he is proficient in as a 10 (though Matt and Liam have confirmed that they respect Nat1s as auto-fails). He also has Expertise in stealth, so his proficiency bonus is doubled, and Vex had cast Pass Without a Trace, leading to a +27 modifier to his roll of 10 (+6 proficient, +6 expert, +5 dex, +10 PWaT).

Who has Earrings of Whisper?

All members of Vox Machina behave like they have an earring.

Has Matt ever stated the city colors of Emon?

Not that we know of!

Do we know what the magic item is that Tary gave to Vax to use against Grog in episode 95?

We don’t, though we have some ideas. ;-)

Battle Royale 3 Stats Roundup

Phillipp asks: I would be interested in a crosstable "damage done to"/"damage taken from" for the latest Battle Royal. Are you guys working on something like that?

We just did! You can find the full sheet here, but we’ve summarized some highlights below. Note that the damage on the sheet does not count any damage ignored due to resistances, but does include overkill damage when it was stated. This does include the damage Grog ignored via Relentless Rage, and the damage Percy took when he fell and failed his first death save, but not any damage that wasn’t explicitly stated (i.e. Grog’s finishing autocrits on Percy and Keyleth). It also does not include any healing.

  • There was a total of 1664 points of damage dealt out in the most recent Battle Royale by players, the environment, and the Raven’s Slumber.
  • Grog dealt nearly half this damage, at about 46%.
  • Keyleth took a full quarter of the total damage, at about 25%. Grog was just behind her at 22%.
  • The lair dealt exactly 50 points of damage, or 3% of the full total. This was more than the damage dealt by Doty, Trinket, Grog’s goliath knight, and the Raven’s Slumber combined.
  • Trinket dealt no damage.
  • The Raven’s Slumber took the most damage dealt by a single player to a single target at 280 (about 17% of the total damage dealt). This also was the most damage dealt in a single round by a single player.
  • Taryon only dealt 77 points of damage to Grog. Percy and Keyleth both dealt more damage to him, at 82 and 126, respectively.
  • Grog dealt the most damage to Keyleth, at a whopping 195 points. Vex came in second at 93, over 100 points less.
  • Taryon’s little camping routine means that he dealt a relatively low portion of the damage at 173 points (10% of the total), but Grog still managed to deal just over 100 points of damage to him. He took a total of 110, 9 of those dealt to himself when he used the Bead of Force on himself.

Do you have the timestamp of that one time when Matt, much to Travis' surprise, invented an official flower for one of the big cities (Westruun?) in a matter of seconds and what that flower was?

The Critical Role Wiki answered this one for us. We recommend checking them out, as they are a great source for trivia like this! Matt told us the official flower of Westruun was the white iris in Episode 56 (3:33:10).

Does the timeskip mean that Tary has been with VM as long as/longer than Scanlan at this point?

From what we can gather, no, Scanlan has still been with the party longer. During a Periscope, Matt suggested that a year and a half passed since the party first met together in Stillben to mid-Conclave arc. We can also note that Scanlan was with the party through two Winter’s Crest celebrations, while Tary has only been through one.

Everyone should have had a bday in the year gap. What's everyone's age now?

  • Taryon: 29
  • Vax and Vex: 28 or 29
  • Pike: Early 40s
  • Keyleth and Percy: Mid 20s
  • Grog, Scanlan: Unknown + 1

The Transcriptions of Doty the First

The Transcriptions of Doty the First

Thanks to @marycreates art for this art piece!

In the mere 17 days Vox Machina knew Doty, the obedient automaton wrote and sketched his way into their hearts.

Okay, maybe not their hearts, but definitely ours.

Anyway, as we fast forward a year and potentially meet his replacement, we figured it was worth compiling a few words from the robot itself. Which, were words mostly spoken by Tary. Transcribing is hard work, yo.

How many times has Taryon has puked since he appeared?

  • Episode 87 (0:46:15)
  • Episode 88 (2:23:53)
  • Episode 90 (2:35:38) and (2:35:57)
  • Episode 91 (2:50:44)
  • Episode 92 (3:20:38)
  • Episode 94 (3:31:08)

How many times has Vax used his Reliable Talent feature?

Approximately 95 times. An exact number is difficult because we don’t know how many times he rolled a natural 10 versus actually getting to use the feature.

Can we get a Monster Analysis for Sam Riegel? Because I'm pretty sure he's not human.

  • Sam Riegel, Bard Level 20
  • First Appearance: 01 Arrival at Kraghammer
  • Armor Class: 14
  • Speed: 30 ft
  • Fey Ancestry, Immune to charm effects
  • Proficient with wine aerating tools
