Happy 2019! We figured we’d start the year with something… Nice.

Liam mentioned double Nat1s in episode 43. How many times has that happened in Critical Role?

A double Nat1 (two natural 1s for the same check) has happened 8 times in Critical Role:

  • Campaign 1 (7 times):

    • Ep 48, Vex Perception with advantage

    • Ep 61, Scanlan Athletics with disadvantage

    • Ep 65, Vax Stealth with Luck (The infamous “Walk of Shame”)

    • Ep 66, Vax Attack with advantage

    • Ep 78, Keyleth Perception with disadvantage

    • Ep 83, Vax Investigation with Luck

    • Ep 100, Grog’s reckless attack on a skeleton Thanks to jasminealoyce and tiamat_zx for the reminder on this one!

  • Campaign 2 (1 time):

    • Ep 43, Jester Perception with disadvantage

Did Episode 2-43 have the most natural 20s?

Nope, the most PC Nat20s were rolled in Episodes 1-55, 1-61, 1-100, and 2-26 with 14. If we add in DM crits, we still don’t come close: in episode 2-43, Matt rolled four and the players rolled four, for a combined total of eight natural 20s. There is something to be said for quality over quantity in this case, though. (In the future, you can find this kind of stat on our Running Stats pages for Tal’Dorei and Wildemount.)

Will you track the number of times Matt claps before the opening credits?

We keep receiving requests for this one despite answering before, but to definitively nip this in the bud: nope. No plans to do so.

How many nines has the Mighty Nein rolled?

As of episode 25, 132 (based on the rolls’ totals, not natural d20 rolls).

How many nines has Vox Machina rolled?

In 115 episodes, 246 (based on the rolls’ totals, not natural d20 rolls). Keep in mind that Vox Machina were working with much larger modifiers, making single-digit totals much rarer.

Are there any plans to track Yasha’s flower collection?

  1. (2-04, 3:29:06) Flowers from Nott

  2. (2-04, 3:30:31) Four-leaf clover (already present in book)

  3. (2-19, 2:54:24) Handful of posies

  4. (2-20, 1:00:43) Piece of bark from lightning-struck tree

  5. (2-23, 3:43:01) White flower bud

How much of VM can Percy KO in a Single Turn?

How much of VM can Percy KO in a Single Turn?

Thanks to @3rdclover for this art piece!

Calculating max damages led to an idle curiosity, and idle curiosity gets out of hand when you have an abundance of numbers and no roll stats to collect. Here we examine what would happen if Percy just went full aggro on Vox Machina, using our level 20 max damage stats, because why not?

This question largely depends on if Grog is raging, and if he is, if Percy targets him. For the sake of this argument, we’re assuming that VM maxed out their HP rolls to get to level 20, and that Grog took a 17th level of barbarian. We’re also not taking any additional or temporary hit points (i.e. from Heroes’ Feast or Inspiring Leader) into account, and assuming neither Keyleth nor Scanlan have any form of shape-changing magic in effect (Wild Shape, Polymorph, etc.). With these assumptions in place, Vox Machina’s hit points are:

  • Grog: 277
  • Pike: 154
  • Vax’ildan: 138
  • Vex’ahlia: 144
  • Keyleth: 153
  • Scanlan: 180

Is there a schedule for Quick Answers?

At this time, no. With the conclusion of the VM campaign, we’ve been pretty occupied wrapping up stats, preparing some new stuff, and making way for the new party. We do have quite a backlog of questions, and we plan on getting to as many as we can when we’re able!

Is there a list anywhere of every form Keyleth has taken?

We keep all of Vox Machina’s transformations, including Beast Shapes, here!

Will Talks Machina change the name with the new campaign?

Nope. We have it on good authority the host is staying, too.

Is it possible to keep track of who takes over Brian's job each week in the Alpha 'After Dark' segment? Just so we can see who hasn't had the, uh, special honour yet.

It is, and we’re doing it! Check out the gray boxes on the Talks Machina Attendance Sheet to see who has had the “special honor.”

Your Tumblr blog has an archive, but can we get one for your main site?
Ask and you shall receive.

Do you have a list of all the deities mentioned in Critical Role, or the blessings each party member has received so far?
Yes and yes!

The deities of Exandria as named on the stream, as well as who is tied to them and what we know about them, can be found here. (This list only partially contains the deities listed in the campaign guide, as not all have been introduced yet.)

We also will be keeping Vox Machina’s blessings right here. (And on a similar vein, we still have what we know about the Vestiges acquired.)

All Rolls Statistics, Episode 100 Update

All Rolls Statistics, Episode 100 Update

Episode 100 makes a fine checkpoint to see how many total d20 rolls and crits we’re at in the series. Let’s start with what each member contributes to the d20 total, individually:

All Rolls

There have been 8987 player d20 rolls, including guest players, since the start of the stream. Of these, the current members of Vox Machina have contributed 8477 rolls. Vax leads the way here, with 1711 total d20 rolls over 100 episodes (20.2%), likely because he is constantly stealthing and checking for traps, not to mention his signature “dagger dagger dagger.” Grog’s Reckless Attacks have pushed him into second at 1587 (18.7%), and Vex is third at 1504 (17.7%). Pike and Tary trail largely because of a much lower number of episode appearances, and Keyleth and Scanlan tend to roll fewer d20s simply because most of their attacks tend to be spells that rely on saving throws rather than an attack roll. In addition, none of these characters are typically taking point on any dungeon-crawling.

Battle Royale 3 Stats Roundup

Phillipp asks: I would be interested in a crosstable "damage done to"/"damage taken from" for the latest Battle Royal. Are you guys working on something like that?

We just did! You can find the full sheet here, but we’ve summarized some highlights below. Note that the damage on the sheet does not count any damage ignored due to resistances, but does include overkill damage when it was stated. This does include the damage Grog ignored via Relentless Rage, and the damage Percy took when he fell and failed his first death save, but not any damage that wasn’t explicitly stated (i.e. Grog’s finishing autocrits on Percy and Keyleth). It also does not include any healing.

  • There was a total of 1664 points of damage dealt out in the most recent Battle Royale by players, the environment, and the Raven’s Slumber.
  • Grog dealt nearly half this damage, at about 46%.
  • Keyleth took a full quarter of the total damage, at about 25%. Grog was just behind her at 22%.
  • The lair dealt exactly 50 points of damage, or 3% of the full total. This was more than the damage dealt by Doty, Trinket, Grog’s goliath knight, and the Raven’s Slumber combined.
  • Trinket dealt no damage.
  • The Raven’s Slumber took the most damage dealt by a single player to a single target at 280 (about 17% of the total damage dealt). This also was the most damage dealt in a single round by a single player.
  • Taryon only dealt 77 points of damage to Grog. Percy and Keyleth both dealt more damage to him, at 82 and 126, respectively.
  • Grog dealt the most damage to Keyleth, at a whopping 195 points. Vex came in second at 93, over 100 points less.
  • Taryon’s little camping routine means that he dealt a relatively low portion of the damage at 173 points (10% of the total), but Grog still managed to deal just over 100 points of damage to him. He took a total of 110, 9 of those dealt to himself when he used the Bead of Force on himself.

Do you have the timestamp of that one time when Matt, much to Travis' surprise, invented an official flower for one of the big cities (Westruun?) in a matter of seconds and what that flower was?

The Critical Role Wiki answered this one for us. We recommend checking them out, as they are a great source for trivia like this! Matt told us the official flower of Westruun was the white iris in Episode 56 (3:33:10).

Does the timeskip mean that Tary has been with VM as long as/longer than Scanlan at this point?

From what we can gather, no, Scanlan has still been with the party longer. During a Periscope, Matt suggested that a year and a half passed since the party first met together in Stillben to mid-Conclave arc. We can also note that Scanlan was with the party through two Winter’s Crest celebrations, while Tary has only been through one.

Everyone should have had a bday in the year gap. What's everyone's age now?

  • Taryon: 29
  • Vax and Vex: 28 or 29
  • Pike: Early 40s
  • Keyleth and Percy: Mid 20s
  • Grog, Scanlan: Unknown + 1

How many times has Taryon has puked since he appeared?

  • Episode 87 (0:46:15)
  • Episode 88 (2:23:53)
  • Episode 90 (2:35:38) and (2:35:57)
  • Episode 91 (2:50:44)
  • Episode 92 (3:20:38)
  • Episode 94 (3:31:08)

How many times has Vax used his Reliable Talent feature?

Approximately 95 times. An exact number is difficult because we don’t know how many times he rolled a natural 10 versus actually getting to use the feature.

Can we get a Monster Analysis for Sam Riegel? Because I'm pretty sure he's not human.

  • Sam Riegel, Bard Level 20
  • First Appearance: 01 Arrival at Kraghammer
  • Armor Class: 14
  • Speed: 30 ft
  • Fey Ancestry, Immune to charm effects
  • Proficient with wine aerating tools

The State of the Contract

The State of the Contract

Thanks to @Takayuuki_art for this art piece!

With Utugash and Hotis destroyed, many have wondered at the state of Percy’s contract with Ipkesh. The tenets of Pact 1 are:

  • Ipkesh provides Percy and his companions with a guide to get them to Utugash
  • Percy and his companions kill Utugash without Ipkesh being implicated
  • Ipkesh ensures that Percy and his companions are escorted unharmed and unspoiled to the Bastion of Flesh
  • Ipkesh ensures that Percy and his companions’ equipment is returned to them
  • Ipkesh provides information to lead Percy and his companions to Hotis.
