Gorgons have a rich mythological history even outside of Dungeons & Dragons. In Greek mythology, the Gorgons were a set of sisters, Medusa, Strentho, and Euryale, who were winged and had snakes for hair. Anyone who looked at them would turn to stone.

In D&D, gorgons look like massive, metal-plated bulls. A gorgon similarly turns its victims to stone, but it does so through its petrifying breath weapon. Between their hooves, horns, and petrifying breath, gorgons are definitely still very dangerous, but the Monster Manual does not give them the attributes of legendary creatures.

As Caduceus noted, while the remains of the deceased were to be passed onto the beasts, these creatures are not bestial. These arachnids appear to be cousins to the cave fisher, a subterranean monstrosity that produces its own sticky filament to trap prey. Fishers tend to focus their attention on smaller animals, like bats or monkeys, and lie in wait for prey to haplessly wander into their sticky traps. Fishers prefer to wait for larger creatures, like humanoids, to wander off on their own before striking.

However, while cave fishers will ambush vulnerable prey in a group in order to get to the meal first, the bladerakes were both much more aggressive and much more organized. Their Pack Tactics indicated that they were used to tearing into prey together, while their organized use of Wax Tomb allowed a few bladerakes to restrain their victims while the rest began carving into them. Their acidic bites caused notably more damage than their sword-like claws, though neither were particularly comfortable.

Updated to 2-95.

Has Jester told us her age?

Jester has never said exactly how old she is, so we have to settle for the “two decades” since Marion last saw Babenon. (That could be anywhere between 19 and early 20s.)

How old was Jester when she met the Traveler?

Also unclear. We know she was a child, and old enough to have an imaginary friend. Our best estimate is between the ages of 3 and 10.

How many mounts have the Nein abandoned now?

As of 2-95, the party has abandoned 28 mounts, including 25 horses and 3 moorbounders.

Has anyone from the Dynasty told us how long ago the Beacons were stolen?

They have not.

Can you thread your tweets to make it easier to read with apps the day after?

Threading tweets makes them harder to see them live. However, as you probably saw last week, we are experimenting with taking the tweets ourselves and placing them in appropriate order for easier reading. While several critters have expressed the convenience of this, we strongly encourage you to let us know if this is something that you’d like to continue to see posted each week. We’ll focus our attention on #CriticalRole for now, as long as it proves genuinely useful.

At the suggestion of a couple of our followers, we’re trying an experiment. Without further ado, here’s our tweets for Campaign 2, Episode 95!

Monster Analysis: Husk Zombies (Mount Mentiri)

Thanks to @BlackSalander for this art piece!

  • Encounter Appearance: 2-94 With Great Power...

  • Armor Class: ≤ 12

  • Immune to poison and poisoned

  • Hit points: Approx. 35 each

    • 6 killed by Caduceus

    • 3 killed by Nott

    • 2 killed by Beau

    • 1 killed by Caleb

In a nod to the history of The Mighty Nein and Wildemount, our intrepid band of adventurers faced off in a nighttime battle against waves of zombies from ages past. All zombies used to be living individuals, and the residents of this particular swamp used to be followers of a being they called the Twilight Phoenix. Their civilization was wiped out by the Julous Dominion for some unknown transgression, and their dead left to fester in the swamp not far from the home of Isharnai the Prism Sage. It would seem that her malice and presence fostered enough evil that the dead were brought back to undeath.

What We Know About Artagan, The Traveler

Thanks to @isvbellx for this art piece!

Last episode, a long-held favorite fan theory that The Traveler was actually an archfey named Artagan was confirmed. Here, we’ll go over everything we know about this archfey under all of the names we’ve known him. For those who have not watched Campaign 1, we are going to be swimming in spoilers to explore his history and the path that led this untethered archfey to unintended divinity. Additionally, we have updated (and added!) the following relevant compendiums:
