CritRoleStats 2021 Roadmap and Survey Review

Thanks to everyone who took part in our survey! It’s a new year, and after much processing of your feedback and deciding what is feasible for us to tackle, we can finally show you what changes we’ve already made based on your input, discuss potential future projects, and address a small number of the requests we received. This is a long read, but it should give you a good idea what we’ve already changed and what we have in the works for 2021.

Updated to 2-101.

Do you know what level 12 Feats the Nein have picked up? Are you doing a Level 12 Update? Have you seen their character sheets?

The character cards are up to date to episode 100 (thanks, Max!), and we’ve uploaded our character sheets with all the information that can be adequately extrapolated. We will update them as we can, and our next Level Update article will come out when we feel we have learned enough to share. What we do know is that with the exception of Caduceus, everyone who had the ability to take a feat seems to have elected to do so instead of increasing ability scores.

As many of our older followers are aware, we do not have access to the character sheets proper. All of our stats, from character sheets to roll data to basically anything you see here, is researched and deduced from what is made available from the cast members themselves. For those who are asking us to use our “insider knowledge,” we’re flattered you think so highly of us, but nope, we’re just that good. Also, super humble.

When did [person/character] say [specific word or phrase]?

We’ve gotten a number of this style of question over the years, and we had our own methods of determining the best way to search the transcripts to find this type of information easily, but now it’s even easier for you to find the answer to your question with Stuart Langridge’s special transcript search tool!

Is there somewhere I can see how many combat encounters the Mighty Nein have between levels?

If you compare this chart of when the Mighty Nein leveled to this chart of which encounters the Mighty Nein faced, that can be easily determined!

Off the Air

Off the Air

For many of us since the hiatus began, the general passage of time has required a little extra effort to track. As of Critical Role’s return on July 2, sixteen weeks will have passed since a main campaign episode has aired. Since time is somewhat nebulous (and since we had some critters ask), we’re taking the time to explore how often Critical Role has taken time off in the past, before this point.

As a note, these “breaks” are only for Critical Role the show, with no regard to the rest of the shows or work Critical Role LLC is churning out, nor the massive undertaking the production team has gone through to bring the show back to the air. As we can attest from our own personal experience, even taking a break from publicly producing content rarely means actually taking a break…

CRStats Favorite Moments, Episodes 2-87 - 2-99

Thanks to @nikoreru for this art piece!

As we all batten down the hatches and weather the global waves in our own socially isolated ships, we felt it was an appropriate time to reflect on the waters we’ve recently sailed, starting with the Adventures of the Darrington Brigade to the present. (And if you’ve got the time and interest, you can check out ALL of our favorite moments across Critical Role’s history here!)

Monster Analysis: Deep Scion Warlock, Sea Spawn (Inkclaw Reef)

Monster Analysis: Deep Scion Warlock, Sea Spawn (Inkclaw Reef)

Thanks to @ziforyu for this art piece!

While the previously encountered seas spawn and deep scions did not betray who transformed them or what master they served, these ones made it very clear right up front which powerful patron was giving the orders. The imprisoned leviathan also gave them all enhanced abilities, including higher armor classes for all, and warlock levels and their own individual Swords of Fathoms for the more gifted scions.

We’ve gotten to talk a lot recently about how the Mighty Nein have really learned how to work together to maximize their capabilities in battle. Today, we get to explore what happens when their enemies are able to set up an encounter negate all of that to their advantage. Uk’otoa may be a massive sea serpent locked away, but Fjord was his warlock long enough to know precisely how to exact its revenge against him. Did the fight feel unfair to the Mighty Nein? Good. Let’s examine why and how.

What We Know About Essek Thelyss

Thanks to momomoriV2 for this art piece!

The end of episode 2-97 was… a lot. Ahead, we break down the information the Mighty Nein learned and how it fits into the grand scheme of their situation. We’ve seen lots of great meta and speculation this past week, but speculation isn’t our style, so we’re going to do our best to stick to what we can confirm for certain.

We’d encourage you to check out our quote compendiums if you’re interested in learning more!
